Engineers returning to their companies after Linaro Connect take back the latest software developments around ARM, new ways of optimizing the latest ARM technology and a strong desire to return.

Linaro Connect is all about engineering. The event sessions are a mixture of discussion, planning and agreement about how to engineer solutions to the engineering projects being run within Linaro. These sessions are split into focused kernel, power management, toolchain, graphics and multimedia, platform, validation, and QA tracks. Mini-summits are also run to focus cross-team thinking in key areas.

Face to face interaction with leading open source maintainers and engineers is a key benefit for attendees. Remote participation for most sessions is available through Google Hangouts OnAir, but the opportunities for interaction cannot compare to attending in person.

Track sessions during the week focus on Android, Graphics and Multimedia, the Kernel, Platform Development, Power Management, QA and Infrastructure, Tools, Validation and LAVA, and training.

In addition to the regular track sessions, LCA13 will host two mini summits. The first focusing on the Linaro Enterprise Group (LEG) and the second is currently under discussion.

Linaro Connect has a unique format: in the mornings we run sessions on technical topics, and in the afternoons the engineering teams gather together to implement, debug and benchmark working code to further the ideas generated in the morning’s engineering sessions.

When to Arrive

Linaro Connect has a packed agenda starting at 8.30am on Monday and finishing at 6.00pm on Friday.  You should therefore arrive on Sunday night and leave on Saturday to attend the whole event.

How to get there from the Airport

The nearest airport is Hong Kong International, which is approximately 30 minutes to the Gold Coast Hotel.

On arrival, proceed to Arrival Hall B where you will find the Sino Hotel Group kiosk. They are very helpful and friendly and will help you determine the best way to get to the hotel. Its most likely they will recommend a taxi, and they can also provide you with Chinese text versions of the hotel address.

If you still want to try things on your own, the following are guidelines:

1) Taxi: Once in the arrival hall follow the exit signs for taxis. Once at the exit you will need to take one of the Green taxi’s which are for the New Territories.  From the airport to the hotel, fares should be around HK$250.00 per single-trip.

2) Limousine Service: You can also contact the hotel to arrange a Limousine service, which can be cost effective if several people are arriving at the same time:

  • 4-seater Limousine: HK$800.00 net per single-trip (Recommended for maximum 3 persons with luggage)
  • 7-seater Limousine: HK$980.00 net per single-trip (Recommended for maximum 5 persons with luggage)
  • Note:
    • Surcharge at HK$50.00 net from 0000 – 0159 hours
    • Surcharge at HK$300.00 net from 0200 – 0700 hours

3) Car Hire: Parking at the hotel will be limited and costly. Further, the nature of Linaro Connect events means there is little requirement to hire a car.

Visa Information

If you require a Visa letter to enter Hong Kong, ensure you provide precise details of your requirements when you register. We aim to send all invitation letters within 2 weeks of registration, please contact connect@linaro.org if you have not yet received it.

Visitors to Hong Kong do not require a China visa, and for many countries you will simply file for a temporary visa upon arrival at the airport. However, we strongly recommend you contact your local government office to confirm precise details.

Note: If you require a visa and think you will be attending LCA13 but are not certain, please request an invitation letter even before registering by emailing connect@linaro.org. We cannot guarantee fulfilling requests received after 11th February 2013.

All Superior Seaview rooms are now fully booked. We are pleased to offer a special conference rate on the Deluxe Superior Seaview room for our guests of HK$1580 per night with breakfast and wifi included. To wrap up a busy and productive week, we’ll be continuing with our Demo Friday. Come along to see what everyone’s been up to in the week.

Demo Friday will take place on Friday 8 March at the Gold Coast Hotel in Hong Kong, as part of Linaro Connect Asia 2013 (LCA13)

Linux Engineers are invited to attend and participate in this energetic afternoon as Linaro, its members, and the community give attendees the opportunity to view exciting demonstrations of Linaro builds running on a variety of ARM processor-based boards.

Do you have a Linaro demonstration you would like to show off?

Not only are you invited to view these demonstrations, but you’re also invited to set up your own Linaro demonstration as well.

Are you currently using Linaro and want to show off what you’ve been working on?

Demo Friday is the place for you to show off your work. We want to see how you are pairing Linaro’s engineering output and ARM processor-based hardware solutions.

If you or someone you know is interested in the opportunity to demonstrate how you are using Linaro, please email the details of your demonstration to: connect@linaro.org

  • Title of demonstration
  • Description of demonstration (The demonstration must be Linaro related, and those presenting the demonstration should be able to tell attendees how Linaro is making their product or demonstration better)

Demo Friday Poster Program

Also being added to the Demo Friday event is a Poster Program.  This program is for those who would like to let attendees know how they are using Linaro code and ARM-based processors, but can’t actually bring the equipment to the Linaro Connect event.

The poster should tell the story of your project and how Linaro is making a difference.

The rules for submitting a poster for this event are as follows.

  • Name
  • Company
  • Title of the Poster
  • Description of Poster (The poster must be Linaro related, and organizations/projects submitting a poster must send a representative who should be able to tell attendees how Linaro is making their product/project/organization better)

Please create a poster that lets attendees know all about the subject your poster is based on. Remember it must be Linaro and ARM-processor based board related. Every 3-4 months Linaro hosts Linaro Connect, an event defining the future of Linux on ARM…

The event pulls together over 300 participants, ranging from kernel hackers to integration engineers to ARM SoC industry executives to present, discuss and develop features,  infrastructure and optimizations for the Linux kernel, Android, Ubuntu and beyond.  This five-day event is made up of keynote plenary sessions, engineering, track sessions and social events. Annually we look to hold Linaro Connect once in Asia (LCA), once in the United States (LCU) and once in Europe (LCE) to cater for our world class engineering team distributed globally.
