The Linaro RDK project team has worked on the migration of the Comcast RDK onto OpenEmbedded (Yocto Project). The RDK is an integrated Linux software bundle or middleware that can be accessed by operators to build their set-top-box "software stack". It is largely based on open source components such as Qt5 and Gstreamer. The RDK was using a home made build system that grew into a very large project and became difficult to manage. The Yocto Project provides tools and methods to help build Embedded Linux complex distributions such as the RDK. Prior to the launch of the Linaro Home Group, the Linaro RDK project team throughout the 2nd half of 2013 designed and implemented a reference implementation of an OpenEmbedded based RDK distribution. As a result, Comcast has officially announced their plan to fully migrate the RDK to OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project in 2014.

In this presentation we take a look at Global Task Scheduling (GTS), a solution to support asymmetric multi-processing capable CPUs. More specifically we describe the solution, it's foundation, how tasks are scheduled in order to take full advantage of the asymmetric computing power and what areas of the Linux kernel have been modified. We will also go through a list of things to keep in mind when porting the code to a new platform before concluding with an overview of some of the tuneables that add flexibility to the model.

In this session we will take a look at ETM/ETB and the Coresight architecture. More specifically we will go over the current status of the upstream code and recent contribution by various people. Next will be presented how we plan on integrating all this work and some of the prerequisite we see as mandatory for upstream acceptance. The presentation will conclude with an open discussion on our plan and take ideas from the attendance. Our goal is to get as much information as possible from people interested in the Coresight technology. We want an encompassing solution that is flexible, scalable and usable by all.
