Radically revamping the device development model for Carrier class operators with ARM and Linaro Comcast? Software? Isn't that an oxymorom? See how the open source community and modern development models are re-shaping the feature velocity and security models for embedded devices like settop boxes, cable modems and gateways. Competing in the modern landscape means building products and experiences that compete with a new breed of innovators. Comcast's SVP, Engineering and Operations and Chief Software Architect will provide insight into how its reinvented its technology stack and product line.

This session will be about sharing current status and discussing ways forward in many areas: * Multiplatform images - how far are we willing to go? * Modernization, cleanups, refactorings - which of these are really worth doing? * Getting hobbyist maintainers to join the cause. * SA110 platforms: RISC PC, EBSA110 and Footbridge/Netwinder - are people using them, maintaining them and testing new kernels on them? If not, can we deprecate and delete the SA110 platforms?

Android integrates SQLite for database management, it’s one of critical components in Android as many applications use SQLite to store information in the database, as the content is stored in files on the external storage media both the retrieval and storing of information has to go through file system calls. The CPU should run the SQL queries to collect the data and provide to end applications. So ideally both the data transfer to/from external storage and CPU utilization can be optimized. This presentation highlights the possibilities of optimizations in SQLite.
